Eugenia Buerklin

Eugenia Buerklin is the developer of a mind-body approach that creates deep insight and accelerated growth for individuals, relationships and organizations. Ms Buerklin is the founder of Lumin8 and The Inner Walking Institute in Los Angeles and has been facilitating the Inner Walking™ and Diving In™ techniques in private sessions and workshops in Los Angeles, New York, Hawaii and Berlin since 1993. She is currently completing her Masters Degree in Clinical Psychology with a Spiritual and Depth Psychology Specialization at Antioch University Los Angeles.

Lori Carter, MSW

Lori Carter graduated with her MSW from the University of Iowa. Lori was the recipient of a Bush Fellowship which provided her the opportunity to be trained for two years as a trauma specialist. Lori’s training included completing the year-long Certificate Program for Traumatic Stress Studies under the tutelage of Dr Bessel van der Kolk. Lori is considered an expert in EMDR in which she is certified and a consultant within the EMDRIA organization. Lori also served as a referral source for the Dr. Phil Show. Lori is a practitioner of QiGong and has trained in Shamanic Methods for the past three years.

 

Douglas Evans, Executive Director

Douglas Evans is responsible for all aspects of business development of The Center for Healthy Sex. Douglas graduated from The Ohio State University in Psychology and Marketing and founded, operated and sold his first business as well as manages a small real estate portfolio. In addition to extensive business experience, Douglas also served as a Volunteer Counselor at the Southern California Counseling Center for two years. He is committed to supporting CHS as a leading edge provider of mental health services to the public and education for professionals.

Christopher Emerson, Ph.D.

Christopher Emerson, Ph.D. is a licensed clinical psychologist (PSY23147). He has provided psychotherapy for individuals, couples, and groups in a Beverly Hills, California-based private practice since 2005. Dr. Emerson works to help patients explore and integrate spiritual and existential concerns as components of psychological and emotional well-being. His clinical focus is the treatment of individuals with anxiety and mood disorders utilizing psychodynamic and existential approaches, and on working with couples to facilitate the revitalization of intimate relationships.  

Dr. Emerson also treats substance abuse, sexual addiction, trauma, and facilitates a weekly psychodynamic process group for gay men.
Dr. Emerson is a graduate of Fielding Graduate University in Santa Barbara, California, an APA-accredited Clinical Psychology program.  He completed his pre-doctoral practicum and internship at The Maple Counseling Center in Beverly Hills, California, where he currently provides external supervision to pre-doctoral interns.  Dr. Emerson has worked as program director and residential therapist at several Los Angeles-based inpatient treatment centers for drug and alcohol addiction, and is an adjunct faculty member at Antioch University Santa Barbara’s Psy.D. program.  Dr. Emerson’s research on models of meaning-making in chronic illness is currently being expanded upon and incorporated in his upcoming book: The Choice to Be: A Guide to Meaningful Living.

Helen Hill, MFT

Helen Hill is a graduate of Antioch University with a master's in Clinical Psychology. Ms. Hill provides individual and group therapy pertaining to life and living, women's issues, teen development, and gender issues. Ms. Hill is a firm believer in the power of "talk therapy" to heal. Helen interned at the Antioch University Counseling Center, and is a frequent speaker / guest lecturer on issues pertaining to gender, marginalized populations and treatment. In addition to private practice, Helen works, via clinics, with autistic children, and teens in crisis. Helen brings a depth of real life experience, knowledge, understanding, and compassion. Rory Reid, MSW

Rory C. Reid received his Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Utah and his doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology from Brigham Young University. He is a Research Psychologist at the Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior in the Department of Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Sciences at UCLA. Over the years, he has conducted individual, group, and couples therapy with hundreds of patients seeking help for issues related to hypersexual behavior, pornography dependence, and adult ADHD. He has received specialized training in Emotion Focused Therapy, marriage and family therapy, neuropsychological assessment, and neurofeedback. In addition to clinical work, Rory is an academic researcher and has published articles on hypersexual behavior in several notable journals such as Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy, Sex and Marital Therapy, Journal of Addiction Medicine, Couple and Relationship Therapy, and the International Journal of Neuroscience. Rory is an author or co-author on several books and book chapters on topics related to his specialties including his most recent work, "Confronting Your Spouse’s Pornography Problem." He has current affiliations or memberships with the American Psychological Association, the Society for the Advancement of Sexual Health, the International Neuropsychological Society, the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy, and the Society for Psychotherapy Research.

Andrew Susskind, MSW

Andrew Susskind, MSW is a pioneer and leader in the cutting-edge field of Recovery Coaching, and he is the co-founder of Recovery Coaches International (www.recoverycoaching.org). As a coach, licensed psychotherapist, workshop leader and consultant, Andrew brings a multi-faceted perspective to his work. Andrew facilitates workshops for Promises-Malibu and consults with Clearview Treatment Center in Los Angeles infusing Recovery Coaching into their existing program.

In addition to coaching, Andrew maintains a private practice in psychotherapy since 1992 specializing in addictions, relationships, and bereavement. Andrew taught interviewing and relationship skills to medical students at UCLA and has provided clinical supervision to unlicensed psychotherapists since 1997.
